Questions

Who does the practice advise?

Boards, managing directors and shareholders of mid-sized private companies, many of them family-owned, in Cyprus and Greece. Banks and credit institutions facing portfolio or regulatory questions. International groups entering either market. Founders and early-stage companies facing their first institutional round or their first governance questions. And investors working on the buy side of a transaction.

How does an engagement begin?

With a direct exchange. You write to Pella, describe the situation, and the first conversation establishes where the business actually stands, financially, operationally and in regulatory terms, before any scope is agreed.

Do you work with family-owned companies?

Often. Many of the situations that bring a family business to the practice involve balance-sheet pressure, refinancing, a sale, or the point at which commercial and family considerations stop pointing in the same direction.

What is a fractional executive?

A senior executive who holds a role, chief executive, chief operating officer or chief financial officer, for part of the week or a defined period rather than as a full-time appointment. It suits a business that needs experienced judgement at the top of the finance, operations or executive function but not another permanent hire: a company being reorganised, a family business between generations, or a group establishing in Cyprus or Greece that needs a credible senior presence from the start.

Do you work with startups and founders?

Yes. The questions are the same ones met at an earlier stage: a shareholders' agreement that will hold as investors come in, a first institutional funding round, governance that fits a company as it grows, and market entry into Cyprus or Greece. For AI companies, the EU AI Act raises those governance questions early, and it is better met before the first customer or the first regulator arrives. Where a founder needs senior judgement before a full-time appointment makes sense, a fractional CFO or general counsel is often the practical answer.

Can you take a role inside the business?

Yes. Alongside advisory mandates, the practice provides interim and fractional leadership: fractional CEO, COO or CFO, interim general counsel, or appointed senior officer and legal representative roles for firms establishing or reorganising in Cyprus.

Does the practice advise on AI?

Where a business wants to put AI to work, in its operations, its documents or its decisions, the useful questions are recognisable ones: who is accountable, how the system is documented, what the EU AI Act requires, and how risk is assessed and recorded. Answering those questions is what makes adoption sound. The practice treats AI governance as part of its governance and compliance work rather than as a separate technology service.

Which markets does the practice cover?

Cyprus and Greece, and the work between them: Greek groups establishing in Cyprus, Cypriot businesses entering Greece, and international groups establishing a presence in either.

Who leads the work?

Pella Demetriades. Where tax, financial or other specialist input is required, it is brought into one process, but responsibility for the mandate does not move.
